&nbsp;ABOUT US<o:p></o:p></span></h1> <h1><span lang=EN style='font-size:12.0pt;mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:EN'>ABC/Advanced Behavioral Counseling (formerly Addictive Behavioral Counseling) was originally formed in 2002 in response to a need for smoking cessation programs for substance abusers in treatment.&nbsp; A grant was received through the Salt Lake County Health Department, which was re-awarded the second year due to the success of the program.&nbsp; Groups were taught in various outpatient and residential treatment programs throughout the Salt Lake Area Valley.&nbsp; <u1:p></u1:p></span><span lang=EN style='mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman";mso-ansi-language:EN'><o:p></o:p></span></h1> <h1><span lang=EN style='font-size:12.0pt;mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:EN'>In 2009 the name was changed to Advanced Behavioral Counseling.&nbsp; In that we also treat various other maladies including depression, anxiety, ADD/ADHD, a new name was needed.&nbsp; The new name also reflected a more positive outlook, with more focus on the solution, and less focus on the problem(s).&nbsp; <u1:p></u1:p></span><span lang=EN style='mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman";mso-ansi-language:EN'><o:p></o:p></span></h1> <h1><span lang=EN style='font-size:12.0pt;mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:EN'>ABC focuses primarily on a behavioral form of treatment.&nbsp; Various modalities of treatment are utilized, including Solution Focused, Cognitive Behavioral Treatment, Existential, Gestalt and some aspects of the Japanese Therapies Morita and Naikan, and well as techniques from Motivational Enhancement Techniques (MET) or Motivational Interviewing.&nbsp; Change is viewed as a process, and not a destination.&nbsp; <u1:p></u1:p></span><span lang=EN style='mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:EN'><o:p></o:p></span></h1> <h1><span lang=EN style='font-size:12.0pt;mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:EN'>Mr. Lewis Galway, then founder and Executive Director of ABC, graduated from the University of Utah, with Bachelors in Psychology, in 1987.&nbsp; He then went on for his Certificate in Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counseling in 1988.&nbsp; After working in the field, for about ten years, primarily in substance abuse, and domestic violence counseling, he returned to school and received his Master s in Education/Counseling in 2002.&nbsp; Mr. Galway received his Licensure as a Professional Counselor in 2005.&nbsp; He specializes in working with addictions, both chemical dependency, and process addictions including sex, shopping, work, etc.&nbsp; He also works, primarily with men, but also with women on anger issues.&nbsp; Mr. Galway is an adjunct faculty member and had taught several courses including basic (psychology 1010) and developmental psychology (1100), personal growth (2010, and counseling methods (psychology 460).&nbsp; He is also an approved Clinical Supervisor, and has worked with several substance abuse counselors.&nbsp; Mr. Galway has received specialized training in the areas of addiction, trauma, and abuse (link).&nbsp; He has participated in several research studies and presented at several professional conferences, workshops and trainings (link).&nbsp;&nbsp; He has specifically studied the Japanese styles of therapy, Morita and Naikan.&nbsp; He utilizes techniques from Gestalt, and has training in psychodrama techniques.&nbsp; He also uses a lot of behavioral therapy techniques.&nbsp; He has been trained in dream interpretation.&nbsp; He has over 20 years of experience as a counselor and therapist.&nbsp;
